The Layout

The system had to be carefully laid out in order to a) detect approaching vehicles and b) display the gargoyle response in a way that the approaching vehicles could see. That imposed some serious constraints. Here’s my plan:

Platttt2

At the far left is the first laser-telescope unit. It shoots a beam across the driveway to a reflector mounted on a fence post. Fifty feet further down the driveway is the second laser-telescope unit. If the laser beam is blocked by something, the unit will send a signal to the computer mounted on the gargoyle perch at the far right of the picture. If the two units send signals appropriately delayed, then the gargoyles will swing into action.

The pink lines show the cables that I’ll have to placed. The cables on the left side will run along a fence; the cables running to the gargoyle perch will be sent through old hoses (for protection) and partly buried.
